KS3 Engagement, Participation and Musical Progression

How do we ensure that pupils not only engage with music at KS3, but continue to develop,

participate and see themselves as musicians?

This first High School Network meeting of the year will focus on KS3 engagement,

participation and musical progression, exploring practical approaches that can help schools

build strong, inclusive and motivating music provision.

The session will look at some of the key challenges schools face around sustaining pupil

interest, encouraging wider participation and creating meaningful progression through KS3.

Alongside professional discussion, there will be practical activity designed to bring some of

these ideas to life and provide teachers with approaches they can take directly back into

the classroom.

The meeting will also provide valuable space to connect with colleagues from across

Manchester, share current priorities and challenges, and identify where further support or

collaboration may be useful during the year ahead.

This session is designed to be practical, relevant and immediately useful, while also setting

the foundations for the wider High School Network programme across 2026–27.
