High School Network Meeting 3: Beyond the Classroom – Music Pathways, Careers and Manchester’s Music Ecosystem

Where can music take our pupils beyond the classroom, and how can schools help them see those possibilities more clearly?

This final High School Network meeting of the year will look beyond curriculum and qualifications to explore the wider pathways available to young musicians across Manchester.

The session will consider how schools can help pupils connect how schools can help pupils connect their musical learning with opportunities in the wider world, including performance, further study, creative industries, professional pathways and the range of organisations, venues and projects that make up Manchester's music ecosystem.

There will be a strong focus on helping teachers understand what is available locally, how pupils can access those opportunities, and how schools can make those pathways feel visible, realistic and relevant to a broader range of young people.

The meeting will also create space to hear from and connect with organisations working across the city, giving colleagues a clearer picture of the wider musical landscape and the opportunities that exist beyond school.

This session completes the year's High School Network journey by moving from engagement at KS3, through progression into KS4, and finally into the question of where music can lead next.

The aim is for teachers to leave with a stronger understanding of Manchester's music ecosystem, useful contacts and opportunities to share with pupils, and fresh ideas for helping young people see a future for themselves in music.
